Shimekazari making experience

Sat 30 Nov

|

Sagamihara City

This is an experience of making Shimekazari to welcome the New Year. In Japan, there has been a tradition since ancient times to decorate shimenawa with rice straw as a bow to welcome the Toshigami. Make a shimekazari by using three straw bundles as a rope in the old-fashioned way. Once you've made your shimenawa, you can decorate it however you like using traditional materials such as daidai, hornbeam, and mizuhiki, as well as pine needles, cypress, bamboo grass, etc. from your garden.
