Card case making experience using boar skin from Fujino (weekday mornings).
Wed 20 Aug
|Hourokusha
This workshop is about making card cases out of wild boar leather from Fujino. First, I will talk about our relationship with wild boars and deer in our daily life here in Fujino. In the leather industry, which usually goes hand in hand with the livestock industry, wild animal skins are usually not marketed. The use of wild boar and deer hides has been increasing in Japan over the past few years due to conditions such as the increasing damage caused by animal damage to crops and the emergence of tanneries that accept the processing of animal hides. The leather used in this experience is tanned from boar skins caught by pest control and hunting in the Fujino area of Sagamihara City. The workshop uses an easy-to-make kit that only requires cutting the leather and attaching metal fittings, so even beginners in leatherworking can get involved.
